Due to the high demand of our chai classes, we are hosting a winter Art of Chai Workshop for you to learn all about chai and warm up with a steamy hot chai! Traditionally, chai is a mixture of black tea and a perfect blend of spices that is brewed with water and milk. The Art of Chai is an exploration of chai’s origins, its deep rooted Indian culture, Ayurveda, the complex flavours of chai and spices and how chai is brewed. To understand what chai actually is, we will explore its culture, taste and art. Hosted by Australia’s leading chai expert, Uppma Virdi from Chai Walli, this class will equip you with the right skills to understand chai. By the end of this class you will be able to:
  1. Understand the journey and culture of chai.
  2. Identify the key steps to create a chai blend.
  3. Identify and taste different chai’s and how the brewing method is a vital part of the chai process.
  4. Be fully equipped to brew chai at home using traditional Indian methods.
Delivery This 1.5-hour class is facilitated by Uppma who is the grandaughter of a doctor who specialised in Indian spices and remedial chai. Her rich Indian upbringing involved playing and experimenting with Indian herbs and spices. Her chai expertise has caught the attention of many and has been featured on SBS, The Age, Forbes, Porsche, Urban List, The Times of India, Australasian Speciality Tea Association and the Tea Board of India. Uppma will provide you learning resources and chai blends for you to take home and practice your new chai skills with! She will deliver this class in a fun, open and comfortable approach for you to learn all about chai; the national drink of India. Who should come? Anyone who would like a deeper understanding of chai and learn the key skills of making chai. Extra inclusions You’ll also get:
  1. Samples of our signature chai blend to take home and practise your new chai skills.

Location The location is a warehouse where the Chai Walli headquarters is based out of. It is shared warehouse with a coffee roasting company. All attendees to this class will get 10% off any products purchased from our teashop (i.e. chai equipment and utensils, extra chai blends, chai infused treats). Getting to Chai Walli by public transport Tram: Take tram number 19 towards North Coburg, get off at stop stop 40 North Coburg Terminus/Sydney Rd (Coburg North), then a short 7 minute walk to Chai Walli. Train: Take the train towards Upfield and get off at Batman Railway Station (Coburg North), then a 15 minute walk to Chai Walli. Getting to Chai Walli by car There is private free parking area in front of our venue, alternatively there is also street parking. Please check the signage to ensure the parking times. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? You can bring the confirmation email on your phone or a printed copy of the confirmation email. Is my ticket transferrable or refundable? Of course! please contact Uppma on hello@chaiwalli.com.au to transfer and update details. Unfortunately, we cannot take refunds for tickets within 72 hours of the event.   • Introduction to Tea – An exploration of teas, how tea is grown and processed, the varities of Indian teas and the history of tea in India
  • Indtroduction to Ayurvedic – An introduction to the ancient Indian natural medicine of Ayurveda, introduction to Ayurveda, Ayurvedic spices and how you can introduce it into your lifestyle.
  • Tea based cocktail making class – A hands on workshop on how to make tea and spice based cocktails and alcoholic drinks at home!
