Filled with a cast of unforgettable? characters, Twelfth Night combines cruelty with high comedy and the pangs of unrequited love with some of the subtlest poetry and most exquisite songs Shakespeare ever wrote.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

The Globe theatre, UK contacted me to direct a play by Shakespeare in Hindi and they gave me a few different options of his scripts. I chose Twelfth Night instantly as it lent itself beautifully to song and dance, a form that I had never explored before and a form that enticed me for some time now. I found in Amitosh Nagpal a wonderful and easy translator who also acted in the show. To help me in the world of theatrical music were my other actors, particularly Gagan Singh Riar. With a team of fabulous singers from different parts of India I set out on a new journey of exploring folk music and the story of Twelfth Night.

Little did I know that the show will work so wonderfully in the UK during the World Shakespeare Theatre Festival. Even after my return to India the show has had fabulous runs in New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Singapore, Bangalore and Chandigarh. All credit of creating such a lovely musical experience and a comedy for me goes to this set of actors. The play will entertain you with its clever and comic translation and an array of beautiful melodies from Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and also some of our original compositions.
