Melbourne contemporary jazz group The ishs/Allen Project launches their second album Stories Under the Sky on 17 August 2017 at the Paris Cat Jazz Club.

Consisting of pianist ade ishs and drummer Chelsea Allen leading the ensemble and long-time members bassist Paul Bonnington and trumpeter Ee Shan Pang, the group has expanded their sound palette with more acoustic instruments, beautifully captured at the acoustic specialist recording facility New Village Studios in Burwood, Vic.

The centrepiece of this album is the outgrowth of the bandleaders’ exploration in the composition area with the vast majority of the music departing from the traditional straight-ahead jazz norm.

However, it contains three pieces of the latter one, serving to convey the message of the band evolving rather than making an abrupt departure, in addition to acknowledging what united the band members in the first place.

Overall, this album accentuates more dramatic and cinematic composition structures.

Prior to recording, tunes in this release have been performed in such esteemed festivals as the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues, Eltham Jazz, Food, and Wine Festival, and St Kilda Festival, where the band consistently received warm receptions.

The band’s debut CD was in high demand that it sold out (digital downloads are still available).

Chelsea Allen: drums, voice
Paul Bonnington: bass
Ee Shan Pang: trumpet, voice
