URGENT APPEAL FOR BONE MARROW DONOR
URGENT APPEAL FOR BONE MARROW DONOR
My wife (30-year-old) is currently under treatment for Leukaemia (Blood Cancer). The treating team at the Alfred Hospital has advised Bone Marrow Transplant as the only option to cure this disease, We have not been able to find any suitable bone marrow donor for my wife in Australia/Overseas. Person of any blood group can register themselves as bone marrow donors.
According to the doctors It is only possible to find a matching donor from a person of ethnic Indian background. I therefore appeal to the Indian community to REGISTER THEMSELVES AS A BONE MARROW DONOR WiTH AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS. There is no cost involved in registering with the Red Cross.
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS – A healthy person between the age group of 18 — 60 years of ethnic Indian background. A donor is required at the earliest. Bone marrow tissue is found in the hollow centre of our bones and is responsible for the production of blood cells. Without bone marrow our bodies are unable to produce platelets and white and red blood cells.
As per doctors there is no risk to the donor and the donated bone marrow is recovered in 6-8 weeks.
The Indian community’s support to a member of their own community in distress will be a great help.
