Live Lighter Perth Basant Festival is a completely not-for-profit festival organized by the So Change Inc with the generous support of Healthway, Lotterywest, Black and White Cabs and Opus Homes. The festival marks the coming of spring – a time historically favored for new beginnings. The Festival aims to showcase the diversity of Multicultural West Australian music, food, arts and culture, bringing people together in celebration of life itself.
Last year we had over 25 performing acts will take the Stage at Curtin University Stadium, offering everything from folk to Indigenous Australian music, as well as Indian, Tamil, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Afghanistan, Punjabi and Middle Eastern dance groups performed by adults and children.
This year a dance competition has been launched for local performers to showcase their talent. Check out the website to enter your dance team/school.
The Festival includes over 100 food and market stalls, offering arts and crafts, workshops and presentations, fashion, food, and produce. In addition, there will be plenty of family-friendly activities such as kite flying and kite-making classes, kids art workshop, children’s entertainment including Mechanical Rides (Simulator, Cup and Saucer, Mixed Toy Ride) and Bouncy Castles, live Punjabi dhol beats and henna and face painting – not to mention the fireworks display!
Approximately 10,000 people are expected to attend Basant. This festival aims to embrace Perth’s rich and varied cultural melting pot, to bring communities together to network and is a step forward in overcoming any barriers. People from all walks of life and backgrounds are welcome. All Proceeds go to Feedings Australia to provide food to homeless People!
