Sydney Fish Market along with the Association Bagnara Calabra Sydney are again bringing to life one of the oldest traditions amongst fishing communities across the world: THE BLESSING OF THE FLEET
The highlight of the day is the colourful procession of the Madonna – the statue of the Santa Maria Di Porto Salvo.
Literally translated, her name means St. Mary of Safe Ports or Safe Harbour. The parish priest will lead the ceremony and bestow blessings on the local Sydney fleet at the Blackwattle Bay Wharf.
Following the ceremony is an afternoon of celebrations with live music, face painting, and the hotly contested spaghetti eating and prawn peeling competitions.
Artists will entertain audiences until 3pm from a floating stage moored next to our iconic boardwalk.
