This 5 day workshop is the second of three Odissi intensive workshops in Sydney this year, led by Monica Singh.
The mesmerising dance form of Odissi is the temple dance of Odisha, situated on the east coast of India. It is a 2000 year old classical dance tradition that is rich in spiritual depth yet contemporary in its expression, renowned for its enchanting sinuous postures and bold rhythms set to melodious music.
Monica Singh emigrated to Australia on a Distinguished Talent Visa in 2008. Over 23 years of teaching and performing Odissi, Monica has earned a reputation as an exceptional teacher and performer, and has transformed dancers all over the world with her intensive and residential workshops.

This workshop offers participants to build on the experience and knowledge gained in the first Sydney Odissi workshop.
Participants will be drilled and fine-tuned in their basic steps and continue their Odissi learning in Arasas, moving into a dance composition if progress and time permits.
There will also be separate sessions for new beginners, focused on imparting the basic steps of Odissi, its correct body framework (angashuddhi) and underlying theory.
As with all of Moncia’s workshops, participants will experience the transformative power of daily guided dance practice, in a relaxed and positive environment. More advanced students may also learn a composition according to their calibre.
