The Australian Indian Historical Society Inc. (AIHS) will be hosting an exhibition in the Queens Hall, Parliament House, Melbourne, Victoria, of the history and contributions that the Indian Community has made to Australia. This Exhibition will unfold unknown facts of Australian History.
The AIHS was founded by Len Kenna and Crystal Jordan who have been voluntarily researching, writing, publishing and public speaking on Australian Indian History for the last 25 years largely at their own expenses.
Len and Crystal also have a collection of photographs of Australian Indian History that they have collated into an Exhibition, and have toured with extensively throughout Australia and India. To date they have published six volumes of books and one play on the Australian Indian history.
Len and Crystal have uncovered many historical and important facts, which will be of interest to the Indian Community. It will also be of great interest to other Ethnic Groups and to the broader Australian Community, for example:
1. India’s involvement in mounting the First Fleet.
2. The role of Indians and Anglo Indians in the discovery of Bass Strait in 1797.
3. The first Sikh Religious Service in Australia, Benalla, Victoria in 1920.
4. The Muslim, Hindu and Sikh Cameleers who explored inland and outback Australia.
The results of this work have raised important issues and facts of the input of Indian migration in Australia. We believe that there is a need to expose this great history and the contribution Indians made to the wider Australian community.
