Bhangra Down Under – Australian Bhangra Championships – 25th Sept 2016
OECC presents “Bhangra Down Under”
Bhangra Down Under (BDU) is an elite Bhangra festival organised by young Australians for the community. Our aim is to connect communities through art and dance whilst promoting Punjabi culture in Australia. BDU is in its fourth consecutive year and we have seen a lot of interest, not just from the Punjabi community but from people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Last year, BDU was one of the most successful cultural festivals and more then 1500 people, from all across Victoria, attended. It was featured in mainstream community media and was appreciated by the wider community. Bhangra and dance teams along with local and international recognised artists from all across Australia participated in this event. It was hosted by international artist – ‘Malkit Singh’ and recorded and broadcasted on YouTube by Harjot Hundal (Gabroo TV) from America, who gets more then four million views on his videos.
This year, following it’s legacy, Bhangra Down Under will be held in September 2016, in Melbourne. BDU 2016 will attract more then 2000 spectators during the festival.
