Brisbane BBQ Festival is back and bigger than ever! Combining the very best of Brisbane’s produce with some of Australia’s most prominent producers, providores and purveyors – everyone from the most experienced BBQ buff to the basic beginner will be here to get a firm grip on the sizzle behind the grill.
After last year’s sold out event at South Bank, Brisbane BBQ Festival has upgraded to the pristine lawns of Brisbane Showgrounds. With its inner city location and easy public transport access, The Showgrounds will be transformed into a vibrant party with beats, bars and mouth-watering barbecue – all in one location.
As the smell from the smokers fills the air, Australia’s top food stalls will be on hand all day for those in need of a cure to the inescapable meat sweats. Local heroes Ze Pickle will have a pop-up kitchen along with That BBQ Joint, Bella BBQ and Sydney based Rangers Texas BBQ – just to name a few. Soak up the atmosphere, chow down on tastes from the respected tradition of barbecue from around the world – and wash it all down with a drink or two from craft breweries Newstead Brewing and Fortitude Brewing or some specially crafted tastings from Buffalo Trace Bourbon.
Guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with over 40 of Australia’s foremost BBQ teams (yes, it’s a thing) as they compete for the rights to the converted 2016 Brisbane BBQ Championships. Using a wood-fired pit, celebrated teams will work over 12-hours to prepare and serve slow cooked, expertly seasoned ribs, brisket, pork and poultry to the judging panel.
The Meat and BBQ Expo will provide opportunities to learn trade secrets from some of the nation’s best pit masters, butchers and producers. Glean advanced technique tips, get the low down on making mouth-watering BBQ and smoke roasted dishes yourself, as well as the inside info on all the tasty titbits.
Amongst the meat connoisseurs, ‘Aussie Barbecue Heroes’ TV Host and Food Writer Jess Pryles will be flying over from Texas to share some of her BBQ wisdom and host the Festival. Hillbilly Wes from popular Sydney BBQ Joint ‘Bovine and Swine’ will be showing the crowd how to grill a whole hog, and ‘Aussie Barbecue Heroes’ winners The Shank Bros will be around to meet and greet.
The stellar live music line-up includes Brisbane kraut-rockers The John Steel Singers, rockabilly troupe The Hi Boys, Deep South Blues musician Big Blind Ray, plus a bunch more acts to keep you moving throughout the day.
First Release General Admission tickets for the Festival will be $15 + BF via Oztix. Kids under 12 get free entry with every adult ticket.
