Breaking News: Jaspal Singh granted special visa by Immigration Minister Mr Peter Dutton.
Indian man whose father died only moments after arriving at the Airport to visit his son in Melbourne could be blocked from re-entering Australia if he escorts his fathers body back home to India.
Jaspal Singh (26) came to Melbourne as a student and was waiting for his parents at the Melbourne Airport when his father suffered a heart attack at the arrival gate and died at the scene.
Jaspal Singh, who has a pregnant wife and a 11 month old child, is on a bridging visa which does not allow him to return if he leaves the country, ABC News Reports.
Mr Singh’s family is now making arrangements for the funeral to be held in India but there will be no guarantee Mr Singh will be allowed back to re-enter Australia.
Mr Singh’s wife said “I am 12 weeks pregnant, I have an 11-month-old baby and my baby is suffering from kidney problems and I’m going to regular appointment with the doctor, and I can’t stay overseas with the baby.
“We’re all very upset, all the family, me, my mother-in-law, Jaspal.”
Siran Nyabally, a migration lawyer with Carina Ford who is dealing with the case, said the family was “devastated”.
“Jaspal is between a rock and a hard place,” she said.
“On the one hand his family is telling him that he needs to go back to India, he’s obliged as the only son in Australia to be with his mother.
“But on the other hand, if Jaspal leaves Australia, he’s going to be leaving a pregnant wife, who has suffered a miscarriage recently, and a young son who has suffered from kidney complications and is being referred to the Royal Children’s Hospital, indefinitely, with no guarantee that he will be allowed to come back to Australia.”
