Ganesha is one of the best-known and most widely worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. Hindu sects worship him regardless of affiliations. Although he is known by many other attributes, Ganesha’s elephant head makes him easy to identify.
Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacle and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles (Vighnesha, Vighneshvara), patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He is honored at the beginning of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as Patron of Letters during writing sessions.
Ganesh is one of the Gods whose presence is imminent and felt by many, readily involved anywhere and everywhere. It is customary in household ceremonies that Lord Ganesh is invoked in a form of idol made of sandalwood paste. He is also one of the many Gods whose is known in many names, one of them being “Sri Karphaga Vinayakar”.
