Rita Thakur
Rita commenced tertiary studies in India. She received a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in psychology from Bombay University in 1975.
Rita continued her psychology studies by completing a Masters in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work at the TATA Institute of Social Sciences in 1977.
Rita immigrated to Australia in 1984. She immediately enrolled for and commenced a Law degree at the University of Technology in Sydney. She completed her law degree in 1990 and attended the College of Law for a period of 6 months.
While Rita was completing her law degree she worked with DoCS as a counsellor in a specialist unit known as "Illawong". Rita specialised in working with and treating children who were victims of extreme neglect and abuse, as well as working with their parents.
Upon finishing at the College of Law in 1990 and being admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court, Rita commenced her legal career in a local firm where she practised primarily in the area of family law.
In 1997 Rita decided to open her own firm. The doors to Rita Thakur and Associates opened on 13 October 1997.
With her background in social work and counselling, Rita is empathetic in her approach to family law clients undergoing stressful life situations. Through her extensive and varied studies and work, Rita is able to have a unique insight into solutions to complex problems.
Rita is currently the Vice President of Collaborative Family Lawyers Illawarra Shoalhaven.
