Dr Hema Shankar graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (BMBS) in 2002. She worked for many years in acute settings and spent six years working in St Andrews ICU before completing her fellowship in General Practice in 2012. Following this she worked at Adelaide Plastic Surgery Associates for four years learning different aspects of dermatology and undertook additional training in the US with a focus on skin of colour patients. She has worked as a locum all over Australia, combining Acute Medicine and General Practice. She has been practising medicine in a variety of settings - urban, rural and remote, hospitals and private practice. Her breadth of experience includes ICU, ED, opthamology, dermatology and Indigenous Health. She is currently enrolled in the University of Adelaide Law program. She is a lifelong learner and has a previous Master's degree in English Literature and has published research in Opthamology. Dr Shankar likes to run on time out of respect for all her patients and requests bookings be for longer appointment times if there are complex or multiple issues to discuss. Dr Shankar is available Monday and Friday mornings.
