Dr Shanta Kumar graduated from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. Dr Kumar also achieved Masters Degree in Public Health (University of New South Wales) and has worked in both rural and urban settings in Australia and in Fiji.
She commenced local experience with Nepean Hospital in 2004 and later moved to South Coast for General Practice work. She has been working as a GP in Sydney since 2010. She has been an examiner for Royal College of General Practitioners.
Dr Kumar strives to provide holistic health care with a strong emphasis on preventative health care. Her practice strongly focuses on recognising and managing metabolic and obesity related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, gout, sleep apnoea and prevention of heart disease.
She enjoys caring for children as well as assessing and managing women’s health conditions including early pregnancy care.
Dr Kumar has a keen interest in mental health conditions, travel medicine, endocrine and skin conditions.
She also takes keen interest in caring for the elderly and assessing and managing their complex medical needs.
Dr Kumar has also worked closely with palliative care teams to provide collaborative care in end of life situations.
