Dr Fernando graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2009.
She has worked in hospitals throughout Singapore, including Singapore General Hospital, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Alexandra Hospital and Ng Teng Fong Hospital. There, she gained experience across cardiology, paediatrics, ICU medicine and general medicine.
Dr Fernando moved to Australia with her husband, Dr Chameera Akurugoda, in 2016 and worked in the emergency department at Campbelltown Hospital, in Sydney.
Dr Fernando has special interests in paediatrics, emergency medicine and neonatal care, and is currently undertaking additional training in mental health through the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
Dr Anusha Fernando joined Ochre in May 2019.
She enjoys family time with Chameera and their son Yehan, as well as dancing and drawing.
