Navaratna Arts is at the forefront of reviving the ancient practice of dancing within the temple precinct and returning the arts to their traditional spiritual setting.
At Navaratna Arts, Natya Yoga (Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam) is taught within the Hindu temple precinct. Knowledge is imparted through the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara. Various Hindu texts, Vedic sciences, theatrical make-up, ancient jewellery designs, Music, Nattuvangam, Thalam, Theory, Yoga and Kalari classes are part of the learning process.
Navaratna Arts was established in March 2011 to impart knowledge of traditional Indian art forms (Natya Yoga). Navaratna Arts provides ongoing classes, selective performance opportunities and various workshops for students to gain a holistic understanding of Indian art forms and related disciplines.
Natya Yoga is part of the Hindu Vedic way of life and was always closely related to temple worship. Therefore, classes take place within the Sivathondan Nilayam temple (photos below). Navaratna Arts is at the forefront of reviving the ancient mode of knowledge transmission of sacred temple dance.
