Miss B and The Bad Boys

Miss B and The Bad Boys are a big band powerhouse delivering energetic and powerful vocals together with sexy, big brassy sounds on songs from the 1930’s through to the present day in both English and Italian.

Their style spans swing, jazz and soul, Miss B drawing her inspiration from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Frank Sinatra.

Miss B’s chemistry with her Bad Boys and audience alike is electric. In June they made their debut at Paris Cat Jazz Club to a sell out crowd.

Miss B (Bernadette Novembre) started singing at the age of 6 and toured both in Australia and in Europe supporting singers and opening concerts for them at venues such as The Palais Theatre (St Kilda). Miss B also writes original soul music and is due to release her EP later this year.

The Bad Boys are made up of renowned Australian Jazz artists led by James Mustafa (Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year 2015).

Origami

Origami is the most recent of Adam Simmons’ various projects, which include the Adam Simmons Quartet, New Blood, Collider, La Société des Antipodes and the renowned Adam Simmons Toy Band. He has contributed to numerous ensembles and recordings over many years, including in recent times: Gotye, John McAll’s Black Money, Pugsley Buzzard, Kutcha Edwards, Hello Satellites and many others.

The trio includes drummer Hugh Harvey and bassist Howard Cairns, but on this occasion Adam’s long-time colleague Simon Starr will perform on bass.

“Simmons is no stranger having been on the Melbourne scene since the 1990’s but this could be his defining moment.

Origami, with masterly technique, embraces some of the most vital aspects of jazz tradition and yet has an utterly contemporary relevance.

Swing, groove, interplay, self-expression, and in the example of past masters such as Rollins, has embraced pop without compromising artistic integrity.” Peter Wockner, Limelight Magazine, 2012

Skyroku

Skyroku, made up of Korean synth virtuoso Mina Yu and drummer Ben Charnley, play electronic influenced funk played by real instruments, featuring synth, sax, brass, drums and samples.

Their originals sound like a cross between the brass-house NYC sound made famous by Too Many Zooz and synth-heavy funk artists such as Prince, Jamiroquai and Parliament, but with an edge-of-your-seat, improvisational flair.

The band features some of the best jazz and funk musicians in Melbourne alongside Charnley and Yu including Greg Sher Sax (the Rookies) and Jordan Tarento bass.

“Skyroku sound like they’re from some fantastic kind of night club where house music and hard bop fuse into the kind of dance party you can’t believe you just found out about.” Dannie McKenzie (Booker, Bar Open)
