Mother’s Ruin in Melbourne, 19th – 21st July 2017

Make Changes

Equal parts historical and hysterical, lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret, featuring acclaimed cabaret duo Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood, accompanied by local legend,Tom Dickins.

“Not only vocally sublime but a stroke of comedy genius” (TheatrePress), Mother’s Ruin is a raucous journey through 18th Century London, a few New York speakeasies, the Australian bush and the jungles of Peru. Discover a little more about your favourite drop, with this mixed up musical history lesson delivered with dry wit and “almost symbiotic harmonies” (Adelaide Advertiser)

“It’s the range, depth, and content of the stories Marsden and Wood tell us, along with the gorgeous harmony of their pure voices, that linger once the cabaret is over… Proud and unapologetic, beautiful and powerful.” (Time Out)

Mother’s Ruin moves from misery to vaudeville in a moment, intertwining excess and prohibition, rebellion and (re)invention.

\Mother’s Ruin features music by Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Merle Haggard, Martha Wainwright, Billy Joel, The Popes, The Pretenders and more. For this season, they welcome local cabaret legend, Tom Dickins. Tom has toured extensively with Amanda Palmer, as well sharing a stage with the likes of Tim Minchin, Margaret Cho and Paul Kelly.

Mother’s Ruin has played to sold out crowds and critical acclaim at Sydney Festival, Perth Fringe World, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival and Festival of Voices.

Venue is wheelchair accessible. Seating for this show is General Admission and unallocated. Guests are seated on a ‘first in, best dressed’ basis.
