Sikh Grammar School Australia Rouse Hill, Sydney, NSW

Make Changes

This section provides the background and details of plans to establish a K–12 Sikh ethos school on 10 acres of land in the north west precinct growth centre of Sydney at Rouse Hill, NSW 2155, near the new Cudgegong metro train station (under construction), close to Rouse Hill Shopping Centre.

The location for the proposed school is surrounded by the developing suburbs of The Ponds, Kellyville, Parklea, Schofields, Riverstone and Rouse Hill where majority of Sikh and Indian community in Sydney currently lives or plans to settle in near future.

Sikh Grammar School Australia will operate as a not-for-profit charitable organisation. It will be the first Sikh faith, and the first Indian school in Australia.

This school will have ultra-modern high-tech learning spaces that will be the envy of the world.

We will have state-of-the-art fully equipped modern classrooms with visual electronic boards. There will be flexible classrooms with movable walls to create 21st century learning spaces.

Our students will have the latest electronic gadgets that can dock to a range of settings on the floor as well as access to high-speed Wi-Fi so they can connect to internet from anywhere in the premises.

New collaborative technologies will include a touch screen to modify and share documents, a telepresence for high-definition video conferencing and purpose-built project and design space, as well as a sanctuary space with a focus on health and wellbeing.

We strive to achieve exceedingly high, consistent academic results in a quality educational environment, inculcating the highest moral and spiritual values into the life of each student.

Academically, we will strive to better the results currently secured by NSW selective schools
These will be complemented with extensive sporting facilities on our ten acres of land, and a fully equipped gymnasium.

We will increase the sporting prowess of our students to such an extent that they are selected in the state and national sporting teams.

The school will be managed professionally by engaging mixed-race fully qualified faculty and professionals, following ethical, equal opportunity principles. Our aim is to make our future generation leaders of Australia in every field.

Sikh values are founded on human values; to provide all-round development of a human being through spiritual and academic education, while fostering empathy for humanity and helping those in need.

This multicultural school, while supporting Sikh ethos, will integrate children from all communities and faiths into the school program.

Cultural diversity and integration with other cultures and religions is our theme to facilitate social cohesion in our community.
Currently, a population of approximately 35,000 Sikhs and other people of Indian origin live in Blacktown and other adjoining council areas.

About 70% of them are in the age group of 25 to 40 years, having school going children. There is enormous support for this school, as all funds raised have been donated by the community.

Serving the Sydney metropolitan area, the school will cater for primary school students (K-6) during the initial phase, eventually expanding to Years 7-12 classes.

There will also be a childcare centre and before/after school care facilities. The school hall will accommodate Gurdwara Sahib (the Sikh Temple), to help teach human and Sikh values to the students.

The school will build hostel facilities to cater to regional Australian and overseas demand. A religious teacher-training college and facilities for seniors will also be constructed in future.

Our school vision is to encourage, achieve and maintain academic excellence, personal development, selflessness and physical fitness.

Distinctive characteristics of the school will include a rigorous and challenging academic and religious curriculum, strong relationships between the faculty and its students, modern facilities with state-of-the-art technology, student participation in missions and outreach programs, having active and involved parents, and a unique seniors program inculcating human values.

We expect to start construction of our first building in 2016 with completion expected in 2017, when Gurdwara Sahib can begin in the school hall.

This Gurdwara Sahib will be used by the students during school hours and will be available to the community for use out of school hours.

We will endeavour to complete formalities with the NSW Department of Education in 2017, and commence primary classes from 2018.

Construction of other buildings will commence depending upon the availability of funds.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for the local community; about 300 positions during the construction phase, and about 200 positions after completion.

Upon completion, the project will have an estimated worth of AUD$100 million. Funding for the school shall be raised through charitable donations, government grants, gifts, trusts, sponsorships, tuition fees, facilities hire, services and sales.

Every dollar raised by the school, including from Gurdwara activities, will be invested for the benefit of our future generations.
