Dr. Jyotica Ruba, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

I have been working in obstetrics and gynaecology for almost 20 years. When I was 18 months old, my family migrated to Australia and made our home on the NSW coast in sunny Newcastle. In 1995, I graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle, started work at the John Hunter Hospital and met my future husband.

In 1996, I moved to Adelaide to further my postgraduate training and in 1997, I entered specialist obstetrics and gynaecology training at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Over the following years, I continued my specialist training at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand, John Hunter and Belmont Hospitals in Newcastle and Gosford Hospital.

In 2001, we married after I completed my final examinations in Singapore for admission to the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. I then completed my post-fellowship training by working as senior registrar at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney followed by 2 years of subspecialty training in foetal medicine at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney and Canberra Hospital.

In 2007, I was appointed consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Canberra Hospital after we moved here in 2006. I now have a full-time private practice in Deakin with admitting rights for private patients to Calvary John James Hospital in Deakin, Calvary Bruce Private Hospital in Bruce and Canberra Hospital in Garran.

Canberra has now been our home for the last 10 years and counting. The pleasure of seeing Canberra women and their growing families during that time has been affirmation of my life’s work. I look forward to sharing that pleasure with you during your care.
