Dr Payal Saxena Gastroenterologist, Sydney, NSW

Dr Payal Saxena is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist appointed at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital and The Chris O’Brien LifeHouse. In addition to common gastrointestinal disorders, she has a special interest in endoscopic ultrasound, pancreatic cancer screening, ERCP, advanced resection techniques for early upper and lower gastrointestinal cancer, polyps and subepithelial tumors including endoscopic submucosal dissection. She also performs endoscopic peroral myotomy (POEM) for achalasia and spastic oesophageal disorders.

After completing her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery with honours at Flinders University, she went on to finish a fellowship at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She received specialty training at Flinders Medical Centre, St Vincent’s Hospital, Concord Hospital and Bankstown Hospital. She then completed her research and clinical fellowship in GI advanced therapeutics at Johns Hopkins University. She also holds a bachelor of engineering and masters of biomedical engineering from University of New South Wales.

Dr Saxena has numerous published works and has been invited to present at a variety of national and international conferences. She is an editorial reviewer for field publications including Endoscopy, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Digestive Diseases and Sciences.

Dr Saxena is involved in postgraduate teaching and continues to commit to ongoing research. She has many professional memberships including the Australasian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
