Dr Sekhar Pillai - Paediatric Neurologist

Dr Sekhar Pillai has dual specialist qualifications in paediatric neurology and general paediatrics. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2000 and completed training in general paediatrics and obtained a Master in Public Health from the University of New South Wales, both in 2009. He completed paediatric neurology training in 2012 at the Children's Hospital at Westmead following fellowships in epilepsy and general neurology.

He primary work is in paediatric neurology with a special interest in epilepsy, neuroimmunology, headache, neurodevelopmental disorders and brain injury. His work in epilepsy has involved working with children with genetic epilepsy syndromes, epilepsy surgical evaluation, autoimmune epilepsy and childhood epilepsy syndromes.

His current appointments include staff specialist (locum) at the Kids Rehab and neuroimmunology research fellow at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. He is also a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Sydney. He is soon to provide outreach neurology service to the Allowah Children's Hospital.

He is completing his PhD research on the causes and outcomes of childhood encephalitis in Australian children and holds a University of Sydney Postgraduate Award. He has presented his research at the prestigious International Child Neurology Congress in Cairo, 2010 and Brisbane 2012.

He is a proud father of five children and understands the needs and challenges of families. His aim is to help care, improve and support the lives of children and their families affected with neurological disorders.
