In the last few years, the Joe O’Connor Trio has emerged as one of Australia’s most innovative jazz ensembles.

The trio fuses intricate contrapuntal approaches to piano trio with a dynamic rhythmic sensibility.

Joe’s compositions draw deeply on classical composition, from renaissance polyphony to the thorny sonorities of modernism.

These influences are woven into intricate textures that Joe explores as he improvised with James McLean (drums) and Marty Holoubek (bass). In his review of Praxis, John McBeath wrote that “this piano trio’s debut album signals the arrival of an important new Australian talent.”
