Kathak Darpan A Reflection of Soul in Sydney, 28th October 2017
One of India’s most revered classical dancer performer, Pandit Rajendra Gangani, will stage a dazzling Kathak concert – complete with mesmerising twirls and mathematically precise footwork – at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre on Saturday 28 October.
Recipient of the 2003 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (the highest award for contribution to Indian performing arts), Pandit Gangani has performed all over the world.
At his Sydney concert, he’ll be supported by live musicians from India and an ensemble of more than 80 local Kathak dancers – students of Harris Park-based Swastik Institute of Dance.
One of the most crucial reasons why – despite his busy schedule – Pandit Gangani has agreed to travel to Sydney all the way from India is because he wants to give Australians the opportunity to experience the beauty of Kathak.
While there is no dearth of Indian concerts and live shows in Sydney, Pandit Gangani’s performance is unique, in that, it’s entirely dedicated to Kathak.
This show, Kathak Darpan, is all about this classical dance form. It’s a rare opportunity for people living in Sydney to experience the full, true and unadulterated might of Kathak.
In the week leading up to the performance, Pandit Gangani will also conduct a six-day intensive Kathak workshop for anyone interested in learning from the maestro.
This is a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity for people living in Sydney to learn from such a world-renowned artist. And once again, it’s not about Swastik,it’s about the art form. This six-day workshop is open to everyone.
The six-day Kathak workshop takes place from 22-27 October .
