Opening Night | Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2017

Experience the star packed opening night of IFFM 2017, as we launch this year’s annual film festival with traditional lamp lighting ceremony and a special screening presented by film director Alankrita Shrivastava, actresses Ratna Pathak and Konkona Sen Sharma, actor Irrfan Khan and celebrity film director Karan Johar.

The festival will commence with the Australian premiere of Alankrita Shrivastava’s award-winning masterpiece ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’.

Referred as “lady-oriented, their fantasy above life” – Lipstick Under My Burkha is bound to shock and excite Melbourne audiences.

The film is the bold narrative of four feisty women in rebellion against the social conventions which confine them. The story follows four sassy women, exploring their sexual awakening through daring and secretive quests.
Enjoy a snapshot of contemporary small town Indian women, their commendable efforts in pursuing their personal and sexual desires beyond the cultural and religious boundaries that otherwise bind them.

After just recently receiving the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film Festivals, we are proud to present this film at IFFM this year!
