Sonam Kalra
Multiple award winning singer and composer Sonam Kalra is that rare breed of musician who has been trained in both Indian and Western traditions of music and is equally adept at both.
Sonam’s unique brainchild, ‘The Sufi Gospel Project’ which blends the many voices of faith, through poetry, prayer and music to create one universal voice of faith, has earned her international critical acclaim.
Sonam has been recognised and appreciated for her all inclusive definition of Sufism and her message of Peace and Oneness has made her a popular voice at prestigious festivals and venues around the world including London, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Pakistan, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon, Algeria, Dubai, Tunisia, Mauritius, Egypt, South Africa and The United States of America.
She has shared the stage with legendary musicians like Sir Bob Geldof and Sufi Legend Abida Parveen and she has also been invited to share her work on Secularism through Music at various TED talks. ‘Sonam Kalra & the Sufi Gospel’ project have performed at the very prestigious Women in the World Summit, MTV Coke Studio, The World Sufi Peace Festival at the Pyramids, The Jaipur Literature Festival, RIFF and The World Sufi Spirit Festival in Jodhpur, the International Faiz Festival for peace in Pakistan and at the The Indo African Summit for The Indian Prime Minister, President of India and 52 heads of African States.
Sonam has a beautiful and powerful voice with an honesty and sensitivity that is rare and the music that she creates with ‘Sonam Kalra & The Sufi Gospel Project’ is an amalgamation of everything that she has learnt and believes in.
Sonam hopes that through the music of The Sufi Gospel Project she can spread the message of equality and help build bridges of peace in the future.
Ashley Clement
Originally from Newcastle NSW, Ashlee fell in love with music the second she could hear it. She started singing and piano lessons at the age of 5 and from that moment on, her passion for music blossomed. She is now a very talented and versatile musician having studied Classical singing (Trinity College London) from the age of 11, and achieved top of state in NSW for her Trinity First Concert Certificate in 2004.
She went on to complete a Diploma in Jazz/Performance at Box Hill Tafe in 2005. In 2006 Ashlee was offered a Scholarship to study Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Musical Theatre at one the most prestigious Performing Arts College’s, “Lasalle College Of The Arts” in Singapore. In 2009 after the completion of her Degree, she moved back to Melbourne to pursue her music career.
As well as being a technically skilled performer, Ashlee is an extremely successful singing teacher internationally and here in Australia. Ashlee thrives on the satisfaction gained from teaching students of all ages the absolute joy and love of music. At the beginning of 2016 Ashlee was offered the job as head of Voice/Choral/Director of College productions at one of Melbourne’s Secondary Schools in the South East Suburbs. Together with her remarkable achievements as a performer and teacher, her personable nature and bubbly attitude is what makes her one of Melbourne’s musical gems.
Ashlee will be collaborating with Sonam Kalra in Melbourne on the 21st of September.
Si’s Mullumby
Si’s Mullumby plays the ancient, indigenous Australian instrument didgeridoo with a certain efficacy akin to the mystical. He has dedicated his life to this instrument after a deeply spiritual tryst with India in 1992. He finds the instrument a completely spiritual tool incorporating rhythmic breathing, meditation, music and the ability to express emotion.
Si has performed, toured and conducted workshops all over the world along with his dance band Wild Marmalade. Their unique and fiery blend of rhythmic didgeridoo and drums has captivated audiences globally.
He is the first non-indigenous player to feature in Australia’s most famous venue, the Sydney Opera House.
Experience Si’s collaboration with Sonam Kalra in Sydney on the 12th Of September and in Canberra on the 23rd of September.
